Time For Regionals

  • For the first time since 2014, Taube Family Tennis Stadium will serve as the host site for the ITA Northwest Regional Championships when competition gets underway Friday.
  • In last year’s event, William Genesen produced a runner-up singles finish while reaching the doubles quarterfinals with Sameer Kumar. This year's No. 2 seed, Genesen was bidding for his second straight tournament title at the time, after he captured the UCSB Classic singles crown one week earlier.
  • Stanford’s most recent ITA Northwest Regionals singles champion was David Wilczynski in 2015, outlasting Washington’s Mitch Stewart 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in Seattle. The last Cardinal doubles team to win it all was Sameer Kumar and Yale Goldberg in 2016, defeating Oregon’s Jayson Amos and Simon Stevens 0-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (10) in Berkeley.
  • Prior to Wilczynski’s victory in 2015, the Cardinal’s most recent singles winners were Tom Fawcett (2014 in Stanford) and Ryan Thacher (2011 in Seattle).
  • In addition to Stanford, the ITA's Northwest Region schools are comprised of the following: California, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle, Saint Mary’s, UC Davis and Washington.
