Card Races at Head of the American

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Competing against openweight teams, the Stanford women's lightweight rowing team fared well at the Head of the American on Saturday at Lake Natoma.

The Stanford lights raced two boats in the Collegiate 8+ and placed fourth and eighth. In the collegiate 4+, the Cardinal placed eighth. Stanford had the only lightweight boats in either race.

The Stanford 'B' boat of Kira Jan (coxswain), Claire Smythe (S), Emily Molins, Isabella Duan, Brigitte Schmittlein, Hillary Umphrey, Micah Trautwein, Maddie Lloyd, and Anne Ryschon (B) took fourth over the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course, in 17:29.0.

Rowing on the Cardinal's eighth-place boat was Jennifer Vu (coxswain), Lindsey Rust (S), Martha Yates, Michele Holtkamp, Kelly Niethammer, Noa Bregman, Tiffany Lee, Reagan Damoose, and Lauren Howe (B). Their time was 17:46.3.

In the 4+ were Nicola Buskirk (coxswain), Clara Everett (S), Kendall Titus, Mary Cooper, and Krithi Reddy (B), who finished in 22:19.1.

This was the last of two regattas the Stanford lights will race until the spring seasons begins March 28 with a home competition, the Class of 2015 Cup at Redwood Shores.

Stanford is the five-time defending Intercollegiate Rowing Association national lightweight champion.
