Cardinal Concludes Fall

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Stanford wrapped up its fall season on Saturday with five second-place finishes on the final day of the Art Adamson Invitational.

"I am really proud of how the guys rallied behind one another all week and fought to represent their school," said the Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Dan Schemmel. "There is a lot of work that still needs to be done but we are very pleased with where we are at this time."

The Cardinal finished in fourth place as a team, totaling 554 points behind champions Texas A&M (1,322), USC (675) and Hawaii (596), and ahead of Air Force (487) and Louisiana State (93).

Freshman diver Ethan Foster (3:15.70) scored the first points of the day for Stanford, finishing second on the Platform.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Grant Shoults (14:52.91) placed second ahead of third-place Andrew Matejka (15:03.78).

Johannes Calloni (1:42.18) started the finals session with a second-place finish in the 200-meter backstroke followed by Alex Boratto (1:47.10) in sixth.

Will Macmillan (43.49) led Stanford with third place in the 100-meter freestyle while Neel Roy (44.98) finished 19th and Jordan Greenberg (44.68) placed 26th.

Hank Poppe (1:52.97) continued his strong week with a runner-up finish in the 200-meter breaststroke with Jon Cook (1:57.44) placing 10th.

Alex Liang (1:43.45) picked up a fifth second-place finish for the Cardinal in the 200-meter butterfly, the final individual event of the meet.

Stanford's team of Liang, Greenberg, Shoults and Macmillan (2:55.46) swam an NCAA A-cut to finish fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay to wrap up the meet.

Stanford returns to action on Jan. 11 when it plays host to Pacific before opening Pac-12 dual action on Jan. 24 against Arizona State.
