One Before The Break

  • The Cardinal, which will be playing its seventh home game at Maples Pavilion, has played its first nine games over a 26-day stretch.
  • Stanford is off to its best start since 2011, when the Cardinal also won seven of its first eight games. The Cardinal’s seven-game winning streak to begin the season was its longest since a 10-0 start in 2008. Last season, Stanford did not win its seventh game until Dec. 29.
  • Stanford has held its first eight opponents to under 70 points, representing the first time the Cardinal has accomplished the feat since an eight-game stretch to open the 2011 season. The Cardinal has allowed 58.1 points per game - a total which ranks 20th in the country and third in the Pac-12 - while limiting opponents to 39.7 percent shooting overall and 29.2 percent from three-point territory. Stanford has also forced 16.3 turnovers per game.
  • Stanford came away with a runner-up finish at the Hall of Fame Classic (Nov. 25-26), cruising past Oklahoma 73-54 before falling to Butler 68-67 in the championship game. Against Oklahoma, Tyrell Terry’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds led the way, as the Cardinal led throughout thanks to 10 three-pointers and a decisive 51-31 advantage on the glass. Against Butler, Tyrell Terry’s 21 points led four Cardinal players in double figures. Stanford shot 53.1 percent but was outrebounded 31-23 as the Bulldogs’ game-winner came with five seconds left.
