Scholar All-America teams Opens in a new window

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Catarina Macario and Madison Haley were named first-team Scholar All-America by United Soccer Coaches, as announced Wednesday.

Macario and Haley helped Stanford win its unprecedented fifth-consecutive Pac-12 championship this season en route to the Cardinal's third national championship on Dec. 8 at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California. Of the four teams that competed at the College Cup, Stanford was the only program with a single United Soccer Coaches Academic All-American.

Macario, a communication major who carries a 3.79 grade-point average, is the favorite to win her second-consecutive MAC Hermann Trophy, which is annually awarded to the best player in college soccer. Macario led the NCAA and set the program's single-season record in goals (32), assists (23) and points (87) – her 87-point total is the third-most in NCAA history behind Mia Hamm (98) and Christine Sinclair (88).

Haley, who majors in science, technology & society with a 3.73 GPA, also earned a berth on the first team. A first-team All-Pac-12 and second-team All-America honoree, Haley ranked second on the team in assists (14), third in goals (11) and third in points (36).
