Nine New Faces

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's swimming and diving has announced the signing of nine incoming freshman, as announced this week by the Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming & Diving Dan Schemmel.

"We are thrilled to welcome a talented and deep class of student-athletes to Stanford," said the Goldman Family Director of Men's Swimming Dan Schemmel, who is in his first season at the helm of the program. "We are humbled by the quality of this class, which is, without a doubt, one of the very best, if not the best, in the country. I commend this group for staying committed to their academics throughout the recruiting process and I expect them to have both an immediate and long-term impact on the success of our program."

Jonny Affeld
A versatile swimmer and one of the class' fastest risers who specializes in the 200 fly, Jonny Affeld joins The Farm from nearby Henry M. Gunn high school in Palo Alto, California. According to CollegeSwimming.com, Affeld ranks 10th among California seniors and 68th, nationally.

Ethan Dang
SwimSwam's 13th-rated recruit Ethan Dang specializes in the 200 breast and holds several national age group records in the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups. Native to Bellevue, Washington, Dang is on track to graduate from Hazen high school and is the second-highest rated recruit from his state, according to CollegeSwimming.com.

Preston Forst
Preston Forst checks in at No. 16 on SwimSwam's top-20 recruits list and is the second-rated recruit from the state of North Carolina, according to CollegeSwimming.com. The Greensboro native specializes in the butterfly and freestyle swims.

Hunter Hollenbeck
The lone diver in the Class of 2024, Hunter Hollenbeck hails from Okemos, Michigan and currently serves as team captain for the Okemos high school swimming and diving team. A four-time conference champion, Hollenbeck was a senior national qualifier on the 1-meter and 3-meter in both 2018 and 2019.

Ethan Hu
Another local product, the versatile Ethan Hu joins the program from nearby Harker high school in Cupertino, California. Hu ranks as the third-best recruit from California, according to CollegeSwimming.com, and the 11th-best recruit in the nation, per SwimSwam. Hu was one tenth off the national high school record in the 100 butterfly as a high school junior.

Luke Maurer
CollegeSwimming.com's top recruit from the state of Illinois, Luke Maurer follows the footsteps of his father Erik, who claimed five NCAA championship medals from 1992-93 while swimming for Stanford, and his mother Lea, an Olympic gold medalist who served as head coach of the women's swimming and diving program from 2005-12 after also swimming at Stanford. Maurer, whom SwimSwam rates as its 19th-best recruit in the class, specializes in the 100 and 200 freestyles.

Rick Mihm
Rick Mihm joins The Farm from North Allegheny Senior high school where he was teammates with current Cardinal Mason Gonzalez. Mihm checks in at No. 14 on SwimSwim's rankings and is the No. 2-rated recruit from the state of Pennsylvania, according to CollegeSwimming.com.

Andrei Minakov
A native of Russia, Andrei Minakov is one of the top butterfly swimmers in the world, owning the Russian national record in the 100-meter fly, an event in which he earned a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. Minakov is the only swimmer to have medaled in the World Championships, European Junior Championships and World Junior Championships in 2019.

Aaron Sequeira
Primarily a backstroke and freestyle swimmer, Aaron Sequeira joins the program from Cincinnati Ohio. Sequeira checks in as the No. 9-ranked recruit from the state of Ohio, according to CollegeSwimming.com.
