STANFORD, Calif. – No. 10 Stanford men's tennis heads to the Midwest for the second time in three weeks, as the Cardinal competes in the ITA National Indoor Championships at the Midtown Athletic Club in Chicago.
Stanford is the No. 9 seed in the 16-team tournament and will face No. 8 seed Virginia on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PT. The winner of Friday's match will face the winner of the (1) Ohio State-(16) Tulane match on Saturday. The 16-team field (by seed) consists of No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Mississippi State, No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 4 Florida, No. 5 Texas, No. 6 UCLA, No. 7 North Carolina, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Stanford, No. 10 Baylor, No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 12 Illinois, No. 13 USC, No. 14 Columbia, No. 15 TCU and No. 16 Tulane.

The quarterfinal round, as well as consolation draws will be held Saturday, followed by the semifinals on Sunday and the championship match on Monday.
Stanford earned a spot in the 16-team field by defeating UCF (4-1) and Oregon (4-0) during ITA Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 26-27 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Friday's match against No. 13 Virginia is the third of five consecutive matches against top-20 teams away from The Farm. Stanford dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 2, and earned a 4-3 victory over No. 5 USC in Los Angeles last weekend.
The Cardinal is 5-1 in dual play so far, coming off the 4-3 victory over the Trojans. UVA is 7-1 in dual play, with wins over California, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Boston College, Louisville and William & Mary.
Stanford has won the most ITA National Indoor Championships with 16 titles in the 44-year history of the event. The Cardinal most recently earned the crown in 2002.
Last season, Stanford advanced to the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championship, held in Seattle. The Cardinal defeated Baylor and Georgia, before dropping a 4-3 thriller to top-seeded and eventual champion Wake Forest in the semifinals.
