STANFORD, Calif. – Senior midfielder Derek Waldeck was picked 66th overall in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft by F.C. Dallas on Monday.
Waldeck, a human biology major who hails from Santa Clarita, California, recently wrapped up a four-year career on The Farm which included six goals and 22 assists across 89 total appearances. During his four seasons, Stanford captured two national championships in three College Cup appearances to go with consecutive Pac-12 titles from 2016-18.
"When I think of Derek, I think of someone with an amazing personality and an even better work rate," said the Knowles Family Director of Men's Soccer Jeremy Gunn. "No matter the task at hand, Derek was someone who always gave everything he had for the program. Derek always put the team before himself and is the perfect example of the kind of student-athlete we look for at Stanford."
This season, Waldeck earned United Soccer Coaches All-West Region first team honors as well as a spot on the All-Pac-12 first team, guiding Stanford to its seventh College Cup appearance and fourth in the last five seasons. Last Thursday, senior defender Tanner Beason was selected 12th overall in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes.
