San Jose, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford opened its season with two comfortable victories at the LouStrong Memorial, defeating No. 18 San Jose State and Sonoma State on Saturday.

The Cardinal earned a 13-5 win over the host Spartans, moving to 51-0 all-time against SJSU, before recording an 18-6 win over the Seawolves in the fourth meeting between the two schools.

Stanford, now 2-0 for the 16th year in a row, will visit Berkely for the Cal Cup next weekend.

Stanford scored the game's first three goals, two of which came from Madison Stamen, to gain early control over the Spartans. 

The two teams would alternate scores eight goals in a row, as Stanford was unable to push its lead past three until a 3-0 run in the third quarter, fueled by two goals from Chloe Harbilas. San Jose State scored after a powerplay from Stamen to make it 9-5, but the Cardinal would use four goals from four different scorers to close the game up 13-5, shutting out the Spartans in the fourth quarter. 

Stanford split duties in the goal, with Emalia Eichleberger playing the first half, saving seven shots, before Thea Walsh saved four shots in the second half.

Similar to the day's first match, Stanford raced out to a 3-0 lead behind goals from Lauren Indart, Katie Lyons and Sophie Wallace. The Cardinal would go on to outscore Sonoma State 6-2 in the first quarter, featuring a potent offensive attack.

It took the Cardinal nearly half the quarter to score in the second, but Stanford would enter halftime up 9-4. Both teams doubled their scoring total from the first half into the second half, as the Cardinal hammered the Seawolves in the fourth quarter, 6-0, holding its second opponent of the day scoreless in the final frame.

Lyon, a freshman, led the way for the Cardinal with five goals on the day, one of nine different goal scorers for Stanford.

Two more goalkeepers made appearances in the net for Stanford, with Emily Blackwell notching two saves in the first half and Katrina Sturm blocking two more in the second half.
