FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Stanford wrapped up competition at the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday night, finishing third with 573.5 points while also taking a lead into the event's third day.
The Cardinal, which was seeking its first Pac-12 crown since repeating in 2017, checked in behind champion California (856) and was slightly off the pace behind runner-up Arizona (578). Arizona State (567) placed fourth, followed by Utah (384) and USC (318.5).
On Saturday night, Stanford's best event was the 200-yard breaststroke final, where Daniel Roy (1:53.06 - second), Brennan Pastorek (1:53.40 - third), Hank Poppe (1:54.19 – fifth) and Jon Cook (1:55.11 – seventh) placed among the top-eight.
Stanford captured four event titles overall during the competition, two coming from Conor Casey, who was named Pac-12 Diver of the Meet in the diving portion last week. Casey became the first Cardinal diver to win both the 1-meter and 3-meter titles in the same season since Kristian Ipsen in 2015. Casey repeated as the Pac-12's 3-meter champion (442.05) and captured claimed the 1-meter crown (407.35).
Earlier this week, the Cardinal claimed the 400-yard medley relay title when Benjamin Ho, Hank Poppe, Alex Liang and Mason Gonzalez clocked in at 3:06.81. That time initially resulted in a third-place finish, however, first-place California and runner-up Arizona State were both disqualified for false starts, elevating Stanford to the victory.
One night later, Grant Shoults collected the third Pac-12 title of his career, finishing at 4:12.45 to win the 500-yard freestyle. Shoults' time was is the 12th fastest in the country this season.
