2019-20: Season in Review

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford (6-7) finished its 2020 campaign ranked No. 6 nationally after producing a sixth-place Howe Cup finish at the CSA National Championships.

Stanford's three matches at the CSA National Championships all resulted in 5-4 outcomes, with the Cardinal securing its lone victory in the consolation semifinals against No. 7 Drexel.

Stanford fell 5-4 to Columbia in the fifth-place match after the Cardinal had beaten the Lions 5-4 back on Jan. 19 in New York.

The Cardinal produced another solid season, highlighted by four top-10 victories despite regularly featuring five underclassmen in its lineup.

Seniors Chloe Chemtob, Julia Gillette, Sunwoo Lee and Casey Wong closed out their final seasons.

CSA National Individual ChampionshipsThree Cardinal players competed in the CSA National Individual Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from March 6-8. Competing as Stanford's only entrant in the Ramsay Cup, Elena Wagenmans reached the consolation semifinals. 

Amita Gondi rallied from an early deficit to defeat Claire Davidson of Tufts, capturing the consolation title of the Holleran East division. Cassandra Ong also reached the final of the Holleran North division but managed a runner-up finish despite also pushing her opponent to five sets.

Wagenmans An All-American, AgainFor the second straight season, sophomore Elena Wagenmans was honored as a CSA All-American.

After earning first-team honors as a freshman, Wagenmans received second-team accolades in 2020.

Wagenmans, who maintained a top-20 ranking throughout the season, posted a 5-8 overall record while holding down the top spot of Stanford's lineup.

CSA Scholar-Athlete Recipients

Stanford was represented with three CSA Scholar-Athlete recipients. The award is presented to juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, participated in the majority of the team's matches in the top-10 of the lineup during the season and achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Final Season Records

Underclassmen accounted for 74.3 percent (55 of 74 overall) of Stanford's victories this season.

Junior Caroline Neave and freshman Cassandra Ong shared the team lead with 12-2 overall records.
