STANFORD, Calif. -- Thirteen Stanford varsity programs earned a perfect 1,000 multi-year score in the annual edition of Academic Progress Rate (APR) statistics released Tuesday by the NCAA.
The 13 Cardinal programs (seven men's, six women's) checked in with scores of 1,000 for the multi-year rate, which measures data collected over a span of four academic years.
Cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, water polo, and wrestling accounted for the male sports. Also recognized were basketball, beach volleyball, field hockey, golf, softball, and water polo among the women's spots.
Two of those teams -- men's golf and women's water polo -- won national championships in 2018-19.
Among Power Five schools, Stanford was among seven to earn a 1,000 score in women's basketball, among three to earn a 998 or higher in men's basketball, and among seven to score 990 or above in football.
The APR is an annual scorecard showcasing academic achievement each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000.
The APR uses a series of formulas related to student-athlete retention and eligibility to measure the academic performances of all participants who receive grants-in-aid on every team at every NCAA Division I college and university.
