STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford, winners of five consecutive Intercollegiate Rowing Association women's lightweight championships, was unable to compete for a sixth because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The spring season was halted before it began, but the Cardinal was able to race twice in the fall.
At the Head of Charles on Oct. 20, Stanford had two boats in competition, placing fourth in the Women's Lightweight Fours and fifth in the Women's Lightweight Eights.
At the Head of the American on Oct. 26 in Northern California, the Stanford lights raced two boats in the Collegiate 8+ and placed fourth and eighth. In the collegiate 4+, the Cardinal placed eighth. Stanford had the only lightweight boats in either openweight races.
The Cardinal remains national champs and looks forward to the next opportunity to defend its title.
