As Stanford's student-athletes have departed campus for home, it's time to get to know the members of the sailing team. Today's edition features AnaClare Sole.
How did you get your start with sailing?
My grandfather had a big sailboat, so growing up I was always around boats and the water. My parents signed me up for a sailing camp when I was 5 where I learned to sail an Opti on Galveston bay, and have sailed ever since!
Why did you choose Stanford?
My older sister was on the Stanford sailing team and when I visited her, I fell in love with the campus. At the Youth Olympics in 2018, I met so many amazing athletes committed to Stanford which made it clear to me that I would not only be pushed by my sailing teammates but by all varsity athletes.
Favorite memory from the team?
Sailing with my sister and our team Thanksgiving at the boathouse!
How are virtual classes going as the term wraps up?
Virtual classes have gone really well and I've enjoyed being home spending time with my family in Texas. Stanford professors have done a great job adapting to distance learning.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Hopefully coaching young sailors at St. Francis Yacht Club and getting back on the water!
How has your Stanford experience helped you manage the COVID-19 situation?
My Stanford experience has helped me learn to be flexible - moving back home, online classes, etc. Being away from Stanford has made me realize how lucky I am to go to such an amazing school surrounded by inspirational people.
