STANFORD, Calif. – Stephen Moye, a 2020 graduate of the Stanford men's volleyball program, has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA.
Moye becomes the eighth player in program history to receive the honor, joining William Clayton (2006), Brandon Williams (2009), Kawika Shoji (2010), Garrett Werner (2010), Evan Barry (2012), Matt Aiello (2015) and Conrad Kaminski (2016). He is the third Stanford student-athlete in 2020 to be recognized as Matt Anderson (men's swimming) and David Jessen (men's gymnastics) were winter recipients, brining Stanford's all-time scholarship award count to 176.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winners receive a one-time grant of $10,000. To qualify, they must be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate studies within the next year. In addition to maintaining at least a 3.2 grade-point average, candidates must perform with distinction in their sport and be nominated by their institutions faculty athletics representative.
Moye, who graduated with a 4.00 GPA with a degree in bioengineering, was recently recognized during the 2020 Stanford Athletics Board Awards' virtual event in June. The El Segundo native was named the winner of the Block 'S' Honors Award for Men, presented to the male senior letterwinner with the highest GPA.
This fall, Moye will take a gap year to pursue research in cardiovascular surgery at the Falk Cardiovascular Research Center in the Stanford School of Medicine. He then plans to attend medical school with an intention to pursue a specialty in orthopedic or cardiovascular surgery.
A three-year starter and team captain in 2020, Moye is a two-time MPSF All-Academic selection. He was 10th in the MPSF in blocks per set (0.83) as a senior and finished his career in the top 10 in school history in the sideout era (2001-present) with a .409 hitting percentage. As a junior, he was second in the conference in hitting percentage (.440) and sixth in blocks per set (0.90).
