Stanford (13-2, 1-0 Pac-12) closes its four-game homestand with a visit from Washington State (10-6, 1-2 Pac-12) on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. The contest will air on Pac-12 Networks.
THE OPENING TIP
• Stanford sits alone atop the Pac-12 table as the only undefeated team in conference play (2-0). The Cardinal’s .867 overall winning percentage paces the conference, and is 10th-best nationally.
• Junior Oscar da Silva leads the team with 16.6 points per game, a mark which ranks 10th in the conference. He also holds the 28th-best national mark in field goal percentage (60.3).
• Stanford held 12 of its 13 non-conference opponents below 70 points and limited Cal and Washington to 52 and 55, respectively, to open Pac-12 play. The program boasts the best scoring defense in the Pac-12 (58.1), and the seventh-best nationally.
• The Cardinal is 2-0 in Pac-12 play for the first time since 2014-15, when it swept the Washington schools. The last team to start 3-0 was the 2003-04 team, which went 30-2 (17-1 Pac-12).
• Stanford has won six straight over the Cougars, including a 48-point win in the last meeting. Bryce Wills leads Stanford’s returners with a career 11.5 points per game against WSU, to go with 6.0 rebounds.
BEST START SINCE 2007-08
Stanford is off to its best start since also opening 13-2 in 2007-08. The last Cardinal team to move to 14-2 or better was the 2003-04 squad, which won its first 26 games. Last season, Stanford won its 13th game on Feb. 13 and 14th game on Feb. 16.
AMONG THE NATION’S BEST
The Cardinal paces the Pac-12 in scoring defense at 58.1 points per game - a mark that ranks seventh nationally. On the opposite end of the floor, Stanford holds the 19th-best 3-point percentage (38.5) in the country, while limiting foes to just 29.2 percent from downtown, which leads the Pac-12.
