Fantastic on Floor

STANFORD, Calif. - Kyla Bryant's career-best 9.950 fueled No. 25 Stanford to an event title in the floor, highlighting the Cardinal's performance against No. 10 California on Sunday at Maples Pavilion.

The Golden Bears rode a hot start to a 197.125-196.175 victory, as Kyana George captured event titles on the vault (9.875) and beam (9.925) on the way to winning the all-around (39.525).

Navigating through a challenging stretch featuring two meets in seven days and four overall during a two-week span, Stanford (3-9, 0-5 Pac-12) produced a season-high 49.375 on floor. Kaylee Cole led off with a 9.875 followed by season bests from Taylor Lawson (9.875) and Chloe Widner (9.900). Two spots later, Bryant provided the exclamation point at 9.950.

"It's been a really tough three-week stretch and we have faced a lot of adversity," said head coach Tabitha Yim. "I thought closing out that three-week cycle with this meet was a huge confidence booster for our team. We're looking forward to the upcoming road stretch and continuing to build our confidence. Grace really stepped up on bars and the floor rotation was electric at the end. The biggest things we can improve upon are a having little more confidence and big hits on each of the events over the next few weeks."

California (7-5, 4-4 Pac-12) quickly took control from the outset, posting scores of 49.225 or better in all four rotations, beginning with bars.

Following a 48.950 on vault, Stanford moved to bars, where Grace Garcia's career-high 9.900 proved to be the highlight.

The Cardinal then received a career-best effort from Lawson on beam, delivering a 9.875.

Stanford and California were squaring off for the fourth time this season.

Looking ahead, the Cardinal squares off against No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 21 to take part in the Perfect 10 Challenge before visiting No. 22 Arizona two days later.
