KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Capping an up-and-coming season that included 20 victories and a host of accolades, Stanford men's basketball has been bestowed a Team Academic Excellence Award by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Stanford is one of three Pac-12 programs to earn the honor, along with Cal and Utah, and 82 Division I programs nationwide.
The seventh annual distribution of the Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for 2019-20. The honors add to the organizations Academic Honors Court announcement from Wednesday, where six Stanford student-athletes were recognized.
The Cardinal has earned the honor six times, dating back to the inaugural announcement of the award in 2013. Stanford finished 20-12 overall this season, and remained solidly in contention for an NCAA Tournament berth throughout a season shortened by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
