STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Meghan McClure and sophomore Kendall Kipp have been selected to the 14-player Preseason All-Pac-12 Team, the conference announced today. Additionally, the Pac-12 coaches have picked the Cardinal to finish third in the league standings.
Stanford has won 10 of the last 14 Pac-12 Championships and 19 overall since 1986. The Cardinal has finished in the top 3 in the conference in 32 of 34 seasons. The coaches have correctly chosen the champion 20 times out of the past 34 polls.
McClure and Kipp are being named preseason all-conference for the first time in their careers.
McClure, an outside hitter from Rancho Santa Margarita, is a 2018 AVCA All-America honorable mention selection and two-time all-conference pick. A three-year starter, she averages 2.13 kills per set on .245 hitting and 2.49 digs per set. The lone senior on the squad, she is also a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American.
Kipp appeared in 23 matches last season, averaging 2.52 kills per set on .223 hitting and 2.76 points per set. She was named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team and selected honorable mention all-conference in 2019. The outside hitter from Newport Beach was also a three-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honoree.
Stanford, which received one first-place vote, totaled 99 points. Utah (119) was picked to win the Pac-12 for the first time in program history and received nine first-place votes. Washington (100) was second and UCLA (98) was fourth, each earning one first-place vote. Rounding out the top half of the poll were USC (81) and Washington State (71).
Oregon totaled 59 points to take seventh, followed by Colorado (51), Arizona State (41), Arizona (34), California (26) and Oregon State (13).
The Cardinal has canceled the first two weekends of its 2021 spring season due to current public health restrictions in Santa Clara County, where Stanford is located. While Stanford Athletics will continue striving to create an opportunity for student-athletes to compete in their upcoming season, all decisions regarding training and competition will be based on the conditions and the guidance provided to us by public health officials and our university administration.
