AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Stanford's indoor track and field season began and ended on the same weekend.
Two Cardinal women competed Saturday at the Championships at the Peak at Cadet Field House and performed well. However, none of 20 Stanford athletes who competed at the two-day meet are in position to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Because the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship meet was canceled because of COVID-19, there are no additional chances for the Cardinal to advance.
Ashlan Best placed fourth in the 400 final on the 268.22-meter track at 7,048 feet of elevation. Best ran 53.38, a two-second improvement from Saturday's prelims. Best is Stanford's indoor school record holder, with a 52.64 from the 2020 MPSF Championships, Stanford's most recent track competition before this weekend.
Allie Jones, a multi-event athlete, set her second personal best in the 200 in as many days. She clocked 25.20 to place eighth in the final, after running 25.29 in the prelims.
Stanford next competes April 3 in the Stanford Invitational, which will be a one-day affair this year and only include college teams.
