STANFORD, Calif. – Led by senior Ali Baiocco's school record eight goals, No. 19 Stanford defeated UC Davis, 16-9, in its season opener, Sunday, at Stanford Stadium.
Stanford (1-0) held a 16-11 advantage in draw controls as it handed UC Davis (3-1) its first loss of the season. The Cardinal led 9-4 at halftime.
Baiocco finished with nine points as she assisted a first-half goal by sophomore Anna Griffith. Senior Mikaela Watson was second on the team with three goals, while sophomore Jay Browne added two and an assist.
Also getting in the goals column for the Cardinal were freshman Ailish Kelly and senior Galen Lew. Freshman Katy Gilbert registered her first collegiate assist on Baiocco's first goal of the game.
UC Davis was led in scoring by junior Kendall Seifert who had four goals, while senior Sorana Larson added three. Seniors Kaley Stunz and Maddie Myers rounded out the Aggies' scoring with one goal apiece.
Stanford is back in action on Friday, March 12 for its Pac-12 opener against Arizona State. The game is slated for 5 p.m. in Stanford Stadium.
