GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 9 Stanford women's swimming and diving opened the 2020-21 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with a podium finish in the 800 free relay, Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Cardinal finished eighth in the relay – the only event to be contested on Wednesday – with the team of Allie Raab, Morgan Tankersley, Lauren Pitzer and Brooke Forde swimming a time of 7:01.05. All four earn first-team All-America honors from the CSCAA based on their finish.
Forde swam the eighth-fastest split of the day (1:43.34) to move Stanford past Florida in the fourth heat, ultimately edging the Cardinal past the Gators onto the final podium spot.
By virtue of Stanford's eighth-place finish, it scored 22 points and sits eighth in the team standings.
The NCAA Championships will continue tomorrow with the trials and finals of the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free. The divers will open competition on the 1-meter springboard, while the 200 free and 400 medley relays will also be contested.
The trials will begin at 7 a.m. PT, with the NCAA providing live results. ESPN3 will carry a live stream of both the trials and finals.
