GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three swimmers earned all-America honors for Stanford to conclude day three of the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Alex Liang finished 13th in the 400 IM (3:43.59) – his third time becoming in all-American in the event – to open the evening session for the Cardinal. The 13th-place finish is his highest ever as an individual at a national championship.
The Cardinal again saw great performances from its freshmen class. Ethan Hu and Preston Forst earned all-America honors by advancing to the consolation finals in the 100 fly and 200 free, respectively. Hu finished 12th in a remarkable time of 45.46 to move to fifth on the school record book in the event.
Forst notched the top finish by any Cardinal individual swimmer so far this weekend, finishing 10th in the 200 free. He swam 1:32.80 – third on the school record book – to finish second in the consolation final.
In the diving pool, Conor Casey (359.80) and Noah Vigran (328.75) took 17th and 27th on the 3-meter springboard, respectively.
Luke Maurer finished 19th in 1:33.94 in the 200 free, and he was followed by Grant Shoults in 24th. In the 100 breast, Daniel Roy was 26th (52.75).
The Cardinal enters Saturday with 58 points in the team standings, good for 15th.
Stanford will conclude the national championships tomorrow with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform diving and 400 free relay. Both the morning (7 a.m. PT) and evening (2 p.m. PT) sessions will be available to watch on ESPN3.
