Cardinal Concludes Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Daniel Roy reached the podium in the 200 breast to lead the Cardinal to a 14th-place finish in the team standings. Stanford has finished in the top 15 at every national championship since 1978-79.
Roy finished fifth in the 200 breast in 1:51.82 to reach the podium for the first time in his career, picking up all-America honors in the process. His finish is the best of any Cardinal individual this weekend.

The Cardinal concluded the meet with a ninth-place finish in the 400 free relay, despite being seeded 19th in the event entering the meet. The team of underclassmen – Luke Maurer, Jonathan Affleld, Preston Forst and Mason Gonzalez – provided a dramatic finish to maintain Stanford's place on the team, as they swam 2:50.13 to finish ahead of Arizona by 3-hundreths of a second.

Grant Shoults opened the afternoon session with an 11th-place effort in the 1650 free, picking up all-America honors in 14:46.51. True Sweetser finished 17th in 14:55.39 to finish just outside of the all-America team. Johannes Calloni swam 15:15.76 in the event, and he also finished 23rd in the 200 back.

On the platform diving, Noah Vigran finished 16th with a score of 327.15 to earn all-America honors.

Stanford placed four swimmers in the top 22 of the 200 fly, led by Alex Liang and Ethan Hu. The duo finished tied for 18th – just outside of advancing to the B final, swimming 1:42.72. Forst was 20th in 1:43.01, while Affeld was 22nd in 1:43.19.

Shane Blinkman was 20th in the 200 back (1:41.53), while Maurer swam 43.08 in the prelims of the 100 free.

The Cardinal conclude the season with today's meet. Freshmen garnered eight all-America honors for Stanford, nearly half of the team's 20 total at this year's championship.
