STANFORD, Calif. – The title defense for Stanford women's swimming and diving has reached its final stage. The NCAA released selections to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, and the Cardinal will send 11 swimmers and five relay teams for 32 total entries.
The national championship, the first to be contested since Stanford won its third-straight national title in 2019, will be held March 17-20, in Greensboro, N.C. Stanford is one of 12 programs to send more than 10 swimmers to nationals.
Stanford has five top 10 seeds, led by Brooke Forde in the 400 IM and 500 free. The senior owns the fastest time in the country in the 400 IM of 4:02.57, and the fourth-fastest time in country in the 500 free (4:37.07). She is the defending national champion in the 500 free, and she will also swim the 200 breast.
Morgan Tankersley is seeded fifth in the 500 free (4:37.11) and eighth in the 1650 free (16:03.27). Allie Raab is seeded 10th in the 100 breast with a mark of 58.47.
The Cardinal will send all five relay teams to Greensboro, with the 800 free relay being seeded sixth.
Forde, Isabel Gormley, Hannah Kukurugya, Raab, Tankersley and Emma Wheal will each compete in three individual events. Zoe Bartel (100 breast, 200 breast), Alex Crisera (100 back, 200 back), Amalie Fackenthal (50 free), Anya Goeders (50 free) and Janelle Rudolph (100 back) round out the Stanford contingent.
The Cardinal is coming off a second-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships, with the 74.5 point margin being the closest team race at the conference championship since 2013. Forde won Pac-12 titles in the 400 IM and 500 free, while Morgan Tankersley defended her title in the 1650 free.
On Monday it was announced Stanford will send the diving contingent of Daria Lenz, Mia Paulsen and Julia Wortman to the Zone E meet, March 8-10.
