HOUSTON, Texas – Freshmen scored 112 points to lead the way for the Stanford men's swimming and diving team, Tuesday on the penultimate day of the Pac-12 Men's Swimming Championship. The Cardinal picked up podium finishes from Daniel Roy (100 breast) and Preston Forst (200 free) to enter the final day in second place in the team standings.
Roy took third in the 100 breast to reach the podium, racing a time of 52.06. That marks moves Roy into fifth on the school record book in the event, as both his times on the day were season bests.
Stanford picked up 54 points in the 200 free, led by Forst's third-place finish in 1:33.23 to reach the podium. Luke Maurer (1:33.38) and Grant Shoults (1:35.09) finished fourth and eighth, respectively.
Ethan Hu and Jonathan Affeld went finished 4-5 in the final of the 100 fly. Hu swam 45.78, with Affeld just behind in 46.17 – both NCAA provisional marks.
In the 400 IM, Alex Liang took fourth in 3:42.44, a season-best time and his fastest collegiate mark in the event since the NCAA championships in 2019. Rick Mihm also reached the A final of the event, finishing seventh in 3:47.76 – a provisional mark.
The Cardinal closed out the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:25.32.
Stanford is currently second in the team race with 551 points entering the final day of the conference championship. The program trails No. 2 California, with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay to be held on Wednesday.
