Sailing Sweeps Saturday’s Conference Championships

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Earning top honors on Saturday, the Stanford coed and women's sailing teams each won their PCCSC Championship title. The coed team came from behind with some clutch late performances to pick up the win, while the women's team led from start to finish.

The coed team scored a regatta-best 37 points, with the B-pair of Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo and Patricia Gerli posting 16 points to lead the way. The A-pair of Jack Parkin and Sammy Pickell scored 21 points, which ranked third among all of the pairs.

The Cardinal trailed UC Santa Barbara by nine points after two races, and stormed back to tie the score with one race to go. Stanford ended with the top two finishers in the final race to secure the championship.

The Stanford women continued the momentum into the afternoon, winning seven of eight races and finishing with the top two boats four times. Michelle Lahrkamp and Christina Sakellaris combined as the A-boat skipper, while the crews consisted of Abigail Tindall and Laurel Foster. The four women posted a regatta-best 13 points, while the B-team of skipper Stephanie Houck and crews Ashton Borcherding and Gwendolyn Donahue ended with 19 points.

The Cardinal will look for a PCCSC Championships sweep on Sunday, as the team race title kicks off in the morning. A sweep would be the program's seventh in a row.
