Stanford quarterback Davis Mills was selected by the Houston Texans on Friday night with the 67th overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
"Davis Mills will be a great fit in Houston," Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football David Shaw said. "Davis has a big-time arm that fits the Texans downfield passing, and he is a great athlete, not just to get out of danger but to fit with the quarterback movement plays."
Mills, a native of Duluth, Ga., is Stanford's first quarterback drafted since Kevin Hogan was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He is the 24th Stanford quarterback drafted all-time (second-most all-time) and the 16th Cardinal QB selected in the modern era (since 1967).
Mills battled injuries early in his career at Stanford but produced incredible numbers over the last two seasons. In 13 games (11 starts) between 2019-20, Mills completed 287-of-436 (65.8%) for 3,468 yards and 18 touchdowns.
In his final game at Stanford, Mills went 32-of-47 for 428 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cardinal back for a dramatic, double-overtime win at UCLA. Mills had thrown three interceptions earlier in the game before leading the comeback in the final five minutes of regulation to force OT.
In 2019, Mills set the school record with a 504-yard passing game at Washington State.
For his career, Mills finished third in school history with a .655 completion percentage. His 131.9 career passer rating was fourth in school history.
