ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Stanford men's golf saw its season come to a close on Wednesday at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, finishing in a tie for seventh with an 8-under 856 over 54 holes. The Cardinal, who was missing its top two golfers for the Regionals, tied with the hosts New Mexico.
"Our guys gave it their all this week," The Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said. "The guys battled and did their best. I'm proud of the progress we made as a team in a very challenging year."
Four Cardinal tied for the best round on Wednesday with a 1-under 71: Karl Vilips, Nate Menon, Michael Thorbjornsen and Ethan Ng, but it wasn't enough to move up into one of the five qualifying positions, missing the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2013.
Just freshmen, Vilips (T18, -3) and Thorbjornsen (T24, -1) were two of Stanford's top three golfers at UNM Championship Course, with Menon, who will also return next year finishing tied for 21st.
The five qualifying teams were Texas Tech, Arizona State, Oregon State, Oklahoma and San Diego, while South Carolina's Ryan Hall was the advancing individual, earning medalist honors at 11-under.
