GREENVILLE, N.C. – Stanford fifth-year senior reliever Zach Grech has been named one of the 10 finalists for the 16th NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, it was announced on Wednesday.
Grech currently leads the Pac-12 and ranks fourth in the nation in saves (13). The right-hander has compiled a 3.17 ERA and a 5-5 record over a team-best 30 appearances and one start. The native of Las Vegas, Nev. has struck out 34 hitters while limiting opponents to a .220 average against.
Two other Pac-12 relievers join Grech as finalists, as Oregon State's Jake Mulholland and Arizona's Vince Vannelle are also listed.
Grech, the 2021 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an All-Pac-12 first team selection, is just the third Cardinal pitcher to earn a spot as a finalist for the award. Colton Hock made the final list in 2017 before Jack Little was a finalist in 2018.
Drew Storen (2009), Chris Reed (2011), A.J. Vanegas (2014), Hock (2017), and Little (2018 and 2019) have represented the Cardinal on the watch list in previous seasons.
The Stopper of the Year recipient will be announced on June 18.
Stanford is preparing to meet No. 8 seed Texas Tech in a Super Regional beginning Friday at noon PT in Lubbock, Tex. Stanford is making its 12th Super Regional appearance.
