STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women's soccer announced the addition of Katie Duong, Thursday. Duong joins the Cardinal as a transfer from Minnesota with three years of eligibility remaining – she is eligible immediately.
A midfielder, Duong arrives to The Farm having started 27 games for the Golden Gophers over the last two years. She has spent time with the US National Team on the youth levels, having camped with the U-13, U-14 and U-20 teams dating back to 2013. She scored a goal and added three assists during the U-20 team's run to a CONCACAF championship in 2020, while also playing in a pair of friendlies in 2019.
Duong started all 12 matches for Minnesota this spring, playing 1,147 minutes – tied for the team high. She was named to the All-Big Ten second team after pacing the Golden Gophers with three assists on the campaign – including the game-winning assist in an overtime victory against Northwestern (March 4).
A Big Ten all-freshmen selection as a rookie in 2019, Duong opened her career with 15 starts in the middle of the park and appeared in every game in which she was not training with the national team. She led the team with 38 shots on the year to score three points – one assist, one goal. Her lone collegiate goal was the game-winner against Northwestern that season.
The Portland, Ore.-native, graduated from Jesuit High School in 2019 after a remarkable prep career. She led Jesuit to a pair of state titles (2015, 2018) and was named an all-American, as well as the Oregon Sports Award Prep Soccer Player of the Year. Duong played for Crossfire Premier on the club level, leading the club to the ECNL finals in 2017 and the DA semifinals in 2018.
