NEW YORK – Three Stanford women's soccer alumna were named to the Olympics roster for the United States on Wednesday, with Tierna Davidson, Kelley O'Hara and Christen Press set to don the red, white and blue in Tokyo. This is O'Hara's third Olympics, while Press makes her second after also being an alternate for the games in 2012. Davidson's appearance is her first for Olympic competition.
Davidson, who led Stanford to the 2017 NCAA Championship and was an All-American along the back line, has earned 32 appearances with the national team, and makes her first Olympics. She was the youngest player on the roster at the 2019 World Cup in France.
O'Hara enters her third Olympics having received 138 appearances for the national team. She played every minute of the team's gold medal run in 2012 in England and started four matches at the 2016 Games in Brazil. O'Hara was the MAC Hermann Trophy recipient at Stanford in 2009, and a consensus first team All-American. She sits fourth all time on The Farm with 146 points and 57 goals.
Press, the 2010 MAC Hermann Trophy winner and Stanford's all-time leading scorer with 71 goals and 183 points, has made 147 appearances for the national team. Her 61 goals for the national team rank ninth all-time, and enters her second Olympics after making four appearances in Brazil in 2016.
Additionally, Jane Campbell and Catarina Macario, both of which have made five appearances for the senior national team, will travel to Tokyo as alternates.
The United States was drawn in a group with Australia, New Zealand and Sweden, and opens the competition on July 21.
