Dear Cardinal Family,
On the eve of the Tokyo Summer Olympics, I wanted to reach out with gratitude and excitement as so many athletes with Stanford ties prepare to take center stage.
I am very pleased to report that 53 Olympians in Tokyo have Cardinal ties, more than Stanford has sent to any other Games. There are more Team USA Olympians from Stanford than any other university, and, remarkably, 22 of the 34 Cardinal sports programs that compete in the Olympics have at least one athlete represented in these games.
Our Olympians understand and appreciate the broad range of support it takes to compete at the highest level of their sport. From coaching, to strength and conditioning, to nutrition and all points between, it truly takes a village to support Olympic dreams and help all of our student-athletes become their very best. And that is what we aspire to be here at Stanford: America's year-round Olympic village, where elite athletes push themselves and each other to discover their fullest potential, both athletically and academically.
So many of you in the Stanford Athletics family have helped make these Olympians' dreams possible, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your support.
We have launched a microsite - GoStanford.com/Tokyo2020 - which will work alongside our social media channels to provide information and updates about Cardinal athletes in the Tokyo games. I hope you will follow along with pride and show support for these incredible athletes who represent our institution so well.
Go Cardinal!
