Hurff Joins Field Hockey Staff

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford field hockey program has started to build out its staff under head coach Roz Ellis, as Laura Hurff has joined the team as an assistant coach.

"Laura's expertise of the game, energy and mindset for developing women will not only elevate each member of this team, it will also advance future Cardinal field hockey athletes to come," said Ellis. "I am excited for us to build this program together. I am looking forward to enjoying the ride. We both have an appreciation for mindfulness and staying present; that is something that bleeds into our coaching philosophy."

A member of the United States national team since 2018, Hurff has made 31 appearances for her country. She has competed in three international tournaments, including a silver medal at the 2016 Junior Pan American Games, an eighth-place finish at the 2016 Junior World Cup and ninth-place result in the 2020-21 FIH Pro League.

"After interviewing with Roz, it was clear that working with her was an opportunity I could not pass up" said Hurff. "Her vision for the Stanford field hockey program is one that I have dreamt of being part of since the beginning of my coaching career. I am excited to put in the work to build a program that will be a force in Division I field hockey and one that will grow the sport on the West Coast."

A four-year letterwinner at Syracuse, Hurff was a three-time NFHCA All-American and three-time All-ACC honoree. She tallied 55 career points for the Orange, including 20 goals across 82 appearances.

Hurff's coaching career has included stops with Syracuse in 2018, Cornell in 2019 and with Mayhem Field Hockey Club in 2021.

Hurff graduated from Syracuse in 2018 with a degree in Health and Exercise Science, and is completing her Master's in Business Administration from DeVry.
