TOKYO – A pair of Stanford swimmers stepped off the podium with a piece of hardware, Saturday at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Current Cardinal swimmer Taylor Ruck earned a silver medal as part of Canada's 4x100m free relay team, while former Stanford national champion Simone Manuel anchored the United States to the bronze in the event.

Ruck, who has taken a pair of Olympic redshirt seasons, did not swim in the final of the event, but she will earn a medal from Swimming Canada after she swam a leg in the prelims for Canada. This is Ruck's third Olympic medal, and her first silver – she earned a pair of bronze medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 4x100m free relay and 4x200m free relay.
Manuel anchored the United States to the bronze medal with a 52.96 split – the United States finished second to Canada by .03 of a second, 3:32.78 to 3:32.81. This is the fifth medal of Manuel's Olympic career, and her first bronze.
