BOULDER, Colo. – First-half goals from Maya Doms and Sierra Enge handed No. 13 Stanford (10-3-1, 4-1-1 Pac-12) a 2-0 lead at the break, but Colorado (6-6-2, 1-3-2 Pac-12) responded with a pair of second-half goals to eventually earn a 2-2 draw from Prentup Field.
The result is the first earned by the Buffaloes in the series history with the Cardinal after Stanford had won the previous 12 meetings.
Stanford got on the board early on Sunday thanks to stellar play from Doms and Amy Sayer. Doms dribbled toward goal in the seventh minute, laying off a pass to Sayer on her left who followed suit with a ball back in front of the frame where Doms slid home a shot into the back of the net.
The goal was Doms' eighth of the season, while Sayer's assist was her first of the year.
The Cardinal advantage stretched to 2-0 in the 17th minute when Enge one-timed an attempted clearance from Colorado into the upper left corner of the net and past the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Dani Hansen. The goal was Enge's second of the season.
Stanford closed the first half with a 12-1 advantage in shots before eventually finishing the match with a 28-6 advantage.
Colorado came out looking like a different team in the second half, putting pressure on the Cardinal and scoring a pair of quick goals in the 64th and 66th minutes to draw even at 2-2.
Shanade Hopcroft got the scoring started with a bicycle kick that lofted over Stanford goalkeeper Katie Meyer. Meyer, who finished the match with four saves, had punched the initial attack out of immediate danger only to have Hopcroft's stellar effort put a tally on the board.
Building on the momentum just two minutes later, Hopcroft found herself near the left corner flag and spun toward the end line to beat her defender. Sending a pass into the box, Hopcroft found a breaking Jade Babcock-Chi who slotted a shot past Meyer for the equalizer.
Meyer did everything she could to ensure Stanford earned a point, coming off her line in the 69th minute to record a crucial tackle in a one-on-one situation and maintain the deadlock.
Playing in its second overtime match of the year, Stanford managed three shots in the opening extra period while limiting Colorado to just one, but neither team was able to break through.
The Cardinal had a golden opportunity to secure the game-winner late in the 104th minute as Enge dribbled to her right and cut a pass to the penalty spot and onto the foot of Samantha Williams. Williams dribbled once and tried to deliver a shot, but Hansen slid in just in time to deflect it away.
Having played the last three matches on the road, Stanford will return home next week to host Arizona State and Arizona. The Cardinal and Sun Devils will clash at 5 p.m. on Thursday before the Wildcats come to Cagan Stadium for a 12 p.m. match on Sunday.
