Setback in Seattle

SEATTLE – In a battle of top 15 teams, No. 10 Washington swept No. 15 Stanford, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17, Sunday, at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Stanford (12-6, 7-3 Pac-12) was held to .194 hitting, while Washington posted a .348 clip. The Huskies (15-3, 8-2 Pac-12) held a 12.0 to 7.0 advantage in blocks and out dug the Cardinal, 43-28. It marked the fourth straight win for Washington over Stanford.

Redshirt sophomore Caitie Baird led Stanford with 11 kills, while freshman outside hitter Sami Francis had nine kills and three blocks. Opposite Kendall Kipp hit .300 with eight kills, six digs and two blocks.

The Cardinal put up a fight in the first two sets. There were a combined 21 tie scores and nine lead changes in the first two frames. Washington jumped out to an early lead in the third and Stanford was unable to mount a comeback.

Freshman setter Kami Miner finished with 25 assists, eight digs and two kills. Sophomore libero Elena Oglivie recorded eight digs and an ace.

Senior middle blocker Holly Campbell registered five kills and three blocks, while redshirt sophomore McKenna Vicini added four blocks and two kills. Defensive specialist Alex Lougeay finished with four digs.

Washington was led by Claire Hoffman's 14 kills on .550 hitting and 11 digs. Samantha Drechsel added 10 kills, while Lauren Sanders turned in a match-high seven blocks.

Stanford remains on the road next week, traveling to Arizona on Friday and Arizona State on Sunday.
