124th Big Game

Stanford returns home to host California on Saturday for the 124th Big Game. The Cardinal has won 10 of the last 11 against the Bears.

Since Shaw took over, Stanford is 32-9 against programs from California, including 26-8 against Pac-12 foes from the state (Cal, UCLA, USC). Shaw is 9-1 against Cal.

The Big Game is tied for the fifth-most played FBS rivalry game. Cal is Stanford’s most common opponent (next is USC with 100 all-time meetings). Stanford’s 65 wins over the Bears are its most against any opponent.

The Cardinal will play the final two games of its 2021 season at home. Stanford hosts Notre Dame next Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

Stanford and Cal meet for the 124th Big Game on Saturday at Stanford Stadium. The rivalry is tied for the fifth most-played rivalry in college football.

The Cardinal owns a record of 65-47-11 against the Bears and has won 10-of-11 in the series.

Last season, the Cardinal earned back The Axe with a 24-23 win over the Bears in Berkeley. Thomas Booker blocked what would have been a game-tying extra point to secure the victory.

True freshman QB Ari Patu started Saturday’s game at Oregon State.

Patu became Stanford’s first true freshman to start at QB since John Paye in 1983.
