NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior inside linebacker Ricky Miezan has been nominated for the 2021 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award. Three nominees are selected each week by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), in association with the Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl Organization.
A native of Alexandria, Va., Miezan played in just seven games over his first three seasons due to a pair of season-ending injuries. In 2019, he was injured in the second game of the season, while suffering another season-ending setback in the 2020 season opener at Oregon. This season, Miezan has started seven games and played in all eight. He is second on the team with 50 tackles and leads the Cardinal with five tackles for loss. He's also recorded two sacks and a fumble recovery. Three times this season he has posted eight tackles in a game – vs. K-State, Oregon and at Washington State.
Ten times during the 2021 college football season, three inspiring student-athletes from all levels of college football who have overcome injury, illness, or other challenges, are recognized as Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Nominees by a panel of writers, editors, and sports information directors from CoSIDA, AP and Touchdown Illustrated. In December, three of the 30 nominees will be chosen as winners of the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award and recognized at a special ceremony during the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, 2022, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
