SETTING THE SCENE
Stanford returns home to Maples Pavilion for its final contest before it faces its first Pac-12 opponent of the year. The Cardinal tips off with North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Network.
THE OPENING TIP
• Stanford is 3-2 to start the season, with all three wins coming in double-digit fashion. Harrison Ingram leads the team with 12.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, while Jaiden Delaire is also averaging double figures with 11.4 per night. Nine players are scoring at least four points a night.
• Delaire was named last season’s Pac-12’s Most Improved Player of the Year after more than doubling his sophomore scoring mark to 13.4 points per game in conference action. He reached double-figure scoring in 15 of the last 19 games in 2020-21, and three of five games to start 2021-22.
• The Cardinal welcomes NC A&T, in its first year in the Big South after previously being in the MEAC, in a return game after traveling to Greensboro last year. The contest marked Stanford basketball’s first trip to a Historically Black College or University.
• Stanford is 3-0 at home this season, besting opponents by an average of 13.4 points per game at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal is unbeaten in November home games over the last three-plus seasons (11-0)
• The Cardinal picked up a 32-point win in Greensboro a year ago, as 11 players scored and Stanford had its most rebounds in a game (58) since securing 57 against Purdue on Nov. 24, 2001.
HOSTING AN HBCU
Stanford is 12-0 all-time against HBCUs, and traveled on the road to its first such program a year ago at NC A&T, with the game added after Stanford’s trip to North Carolina for the Maui Invitational was extended. Stanford was the first power conference team NC A&T hosted in men’s basketball. The Pac-12 announced an educational and basketball scheduling partnership in September with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) which will see Stanford participate in a home-and-home series with a SWAC school in 2024 and 2025. This marks the third-straight season Stanford has scheduled an HBCU.
