Griffith to Semis

LAS VEGAS - Shane Griffith went 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday. As a team, Stanford is 14th with 24 points.

Griffith, ranked No. 4 at 165 pounds, won all three of his matches by bonus points and will face No. 9 Carson Kharchla of Ohio State on Saturday. The redshirt junior opened the tournament with a dominating 17-1 technical fall in 5:43 over Utah Valley's Danny Snediker. After pinning Wyoming's Cooper Voorhees in 2:58, the Westwood, New Jersey native earned a 12-4 major decision over No. 31 Joshua Ogunsanya of Columbia in the quarterfinals.

Three other Cardinal are still alive in the consolation bracket. Redshirt sophomore Jaden Abas, ranked No. 6, reached the quarterfinals at 149 pounds before dropping a 9-2 decision to No. 12 Ridge Lovett of Nebraska. Abas will face No. 31 Cory Crooks of Oregon State in the consolation round.

Sophomore 157-pounder Charlie Darracott went 3-1 on Friday with wins over Harvard's Trevor Tarsi (6-1), Utah Valley's Jaxon Garoutte (6-4) and South Dakota State's Kenny O'Neil (8-1). He will wrestle No. 15 Will Lewan of Michigan on Saturday morning.

Tyler Eischens, ranked No. 29 at 174 pounds, was 2-1 on Friday. After dropping his opening match to No. 16 Cade DeVos of South Dakota State, 7-3, the redshirt junior bounced back with a pair of bonus-point wins - a fall in 1:18 over Sacred Heart's Alex Marciniak and a 9-1 major decision over No. 30 Joshua Kim of Harvard. Eischens will meet No. 20 Gerrit Nijenhuis of Purdue next in the consolation round.

Sophomore Nick Stemmet went 2-2 in the tournament at 197 pounds. He opened with an 8-3 decision over Columbia's Joseph Franzese. He dropped into the consolation bracket after getting pinned by No. 9 Stephen Buchanan of Wyoming where he squared off against his twin brother, Ben. He posted a 15-2 major decision over his brother, who wrestles for The Citadel.

The Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational continues on Saturday at 9 a.m.
