OMAHA, Neb. – Every time she steps into the pool, Katie Ledecky's legacy seems to grow.
Ledecky qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in both the 200m free and 1500m free to pull off a historic double on Wednesday night. With her victory in the 1500m free, Ledecky – the world record holder in the event – becomes the first American woman to qualify for the event at the Olympics, with the 1500m free set to make its women's debut at this year's games.
The former Cardinal great opened the night with a victory in the 200m free in 1:55.11. She came back two hours later to win the 1500m free in a world-leading time of 15:40.50.
Brooke Forde continued her strong week at the Olympic Team Trials with a sixth-place showing in the 200m free (1:57.61). Forde will still race the 200m breast tomorrow.
In the 200m fly, Regan Smith reached the finals by winning her semifinal heat in 2:07.89. The incoming freshman was joined by Katie Drabot and Lillie Nordmann.
Torri Huske was fourth in the 200m IM in 2:10.38.
Stanford will be represented on Thursday in the trials of the 100m free and 200m breast, and the finals of the 200m fly.
