2020-21: Season In Review

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford did not compete during the 2020-21 season, aligning with similar decisions made by peer institutions and coupled with the College Squash Association (CSA) cancelling its national championship events due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The CSA Board of Directors' vote to cancel all national championships on Dec. 18 followed a thorough review of the logistics and resources required to stage events safely, as well as a comprehensive assessment of CSA teams' operations, including their respective clearances to train, travel, host competitions and gather in large groups.

The CSA remained committed to honoring graduating seniors and recognizing the typical end-of-season academic and athletic award winners. On March 30, the CSA's Scholar-Athlete Award was granted to varsity juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, earned at least two varsity letters, would have been eligible to compete this season and achieved a high academic standing at their institution. Stanford's 2020-21 recipients were Amita Gondi, Juliette Love, Caroline Neave and Elena Wagenmans.

On May 18, Stanford Athletics announced the reinstatement of its squash program, one of 11 varsity teams that were slated to be discontinued in an announcement originally made on July 8, 2020. Bolstered by an improved financial picture with increased fundraising potential, Stanford will now continue those 11 varsity sports moving forward.
