Card Holds Off Little Rock

STANFORD, Calif. – A fall by sophomore Nick Stemmet at 197 pounds clinched a 22-18 win over Little Rock for No. 21 Stanford in its Pac-12 opener, Saturday, at Burnham Pavilion.

Stanford (2-2, 1-0 Pac-12) won six of the 10 bouts, getting bonus points from Stemmet and sophomore Charlie Darracott.

Stemmet's fall came in the first period, pinning Little Rock's Brooks Sacharczyk in 1:36. The 197-pounder earned his first dual win of the season and is tied for the team lead with 15 wins.

Darracott registered a dominating 12-3 major decision over Chase Tebbets at 157 pounds. Darracott displayed his offense, finishing with four takedowns in the win. The Flowery Branch, Georgia, native is now 13-8 on the season.

Junior Jackson DiSario, who is ranked No. 29 nationally by InterMat, got the Cardinal on the board with an 8-5 decision over Jaylen Carson at 133 pounds. He recorded a takedown and four near fall points in the first period. He chose neutral to start the second and scored another takedown to secure the win. He is now 15-5 on the year, tying Stemmet for the most wins on the team.

Sophomore Jason Miranda wrestled up at 141 pounds and notched a 6-1 decision over Little Rock's Conner Ward. He scored a takedown in the first to lead 2-0 going into the second. Ward chose neutral and Miranda recorded another takedown before giving up a point for locked hands. He finished off the win with an escape to start the third and totaled 3:16 of riding time.

Reigning national champion Shane Griffith returned to the mat for the first time since Dec. 4. Ranked No. 4 at 165 pounds, Griffith wrestled up at 174 and tallied a 6-1 decision against Triston Wills. The Westwood, New Jersey, native moved to 10-2 on the season and 2-1 in duals.

Also wrestling up a weight class for the Cardinal was Tyler Eischens, who is ranked No. 29 at 174 pounds. Eischens earned a 7-2 decision over Will Edgar at 184 pounds. Leading 4-2 after the first, Eischens rode out Edgar in the second. Eischens chose down to start the third and was able to earn a reversal and racked up 3:43 of riding time. Eischens is now 13-8 on the season.

Stanford is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 29 versus Menlo College. The dual will be held at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale.
