SETTING THE SCENE
Wrapping up the home weekend, and the final homestand without fans present, Stanford men’s basketball hosts Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. on FS1.
THE OPENING TIP
• Stanford is 10-6 (3-3 Pac-12) on the season, with conference wins over Oregon, USC and Washington State. Harrison Ingram leads the team with 11.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, while Jaiden Delaire is close behind at 11.3 points per night. Michael O’Connell paces the squad with 3.9 assists per outing.
• Showcasing the program’s depth and balance, 11 Cardinal players have reached double figures in a game this season. The Cardinal is one of two Pac-12 programs to meet that standard, joining Washington State.
• Stanford is 7-1 at home this season, with five of the wins coming in double-digit fashion. The Cardinal remained unbeaten in November home games since 2018 (12-0), and got off to a 7-0 start at home for the second time in three seasons. The Cardinal is 2-1 in home Pac-12 games after beating Oregon Dec. 12 with a buzzer beater from Jaiden Delaire and upsetting No. 5 USC Jan. 11.
• The Cardinal has outrebounded its opponent in 14 of 16 games this season, posting a plus-8.4 margin on the glass, which is 13th-best nationally. Stanford ranks in the top-20 nationally in offensive rebound (19th, 35.3%) and defensive rebound percentage (14th, 77.6%) per KenPom.
• Building its resume, Stanford is the only program in the Pac-12 with at least three quadrant one wins. Two of those wins came last week, as Stanford bested USC at home and Washington State in Pullman.
TIME TO REBOUND
Stanford has dropped back-to-back outings after previously winning four consecutive games from Dec. 22-Jan. 13. The win streak included three quadrant one wins, led by 19.3 points per game from Spencer Jones and three others averaging double figures, but the team has fallen in consecutive matchups at Washington and to No. 3/3 Arizona. During the four-game streak Stanford shot 46 percent from the floor and 39 percent from three, compared to 36 and 30 percent, respectively, over the last two.
