Card in the NBA

STANFORD, Calif. – The Cardinal has six active alumni in the National Basketball Association, with the Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies rostering at least one Cardinal product. Five of the six players are competing for teams in a top-six playoff position.

Stanford is one of 12 programs nationally with a player drafted in each of the last three seasons, while a plethora of alumni are competing professionally around the world.

Brook Lopez | Milwaukee Bucks

Lopez is coming off an NBA Championship with the Bucks in 2021, where he averaged 13.0 points per game in the playoffs and 11.5 in the NBA Finals. He was the first Stanford product to win an NBA title since Mark Madsen won with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2002. Lopez only played in the season opener this year, scoring eight points with five rebounds and three blocks, and has missed the rest of the season to this point due to injury. The Bucks are third in the East at 25-15.

Robin Lopez | Orlando Magic

Lopez signed with the Orlando Magic in the offseason, suiting up for his eighth team since debuting with the Phoenix Suns in 2008. Lopez has started five of his 17 appearances, and averages 7.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and a career-high 2.0 assists per game. He had a season-best 20 points on Dec. 18 in a win over the Nets, and followed with a 10-point, 11-assist double-double the next time out in a win over the Hawks on Dec. 22.

KZ Okpala | Miami Heat

In his third season with the Miami Heat, Okpala is averaging 3.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 11.6 minutes per night. Drafted 32nd in 2019, Okpala had three double-digit scoring outputs in December, led by a 16-point outburst Dec. 21 in a 29-point win over the Pacers. He improved to 5.5 points per game across 12 appearances in December. The Heat are fourth in the East at 24-15.

Dwight Powell | Dallas Mavericks

The ever-steady Dwight Powell is in his ninth season with the Dallas Mavericks after a trade sent the power forward to Texas in 2014. Powell has started 35 of his 38 games in 2021-22, averaging 6.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting just shy of 60 percent from the floor. He is on his way to posting his fourth-straight season with an offensive rating of 130 or higher. The Mavericks are fifth in the West at 20-18.
