STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford softball swept Friday's action of the Stanford Invitational to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Cardinal shutout both opponents, defeating UIC, 1-0, in the afternoon game before blanking Seattle, 7-0.

Emily Young tripled to right field to bat in the decisive run, while Stanford used three different pitchers to defeat the Flames (2-5) in the Cardinal's first game of the day.

Stanford logged six hits in the game but stranded four runners on base in the game. Young provided the game's decisive hit in the bottom of the third for the day's lone RBI. Her shot went just over the head of UIC's right fielder, giving Huff plenty of time to score from first after drawing a leadoff walk.

Kylie Chung picked up her first career victory, going 3.0 innings in middle relief. The freshman struck out three of the 11 batters she faced, allowing only two hits in her appearance. Molly Millar picked up the save with 2.1 innings of shutout work – allowing zero walks and zero hits.

The Cardinal allowed only one extra-base hit in the game.

Seattle Recap
The Cardinal wasted zero time jumping to a 5-0 lead in the first inning against Seattle (5-1) in the final game of the evening. The first four batters all reached base safely, and Kaitlyn Lim brought two of them home with a three-run home run to go up 5-0 in the six spot.

Stanford flashed its speed with Taylor Gindlesperger and Sydnee Huff reaching home from scoring position after Young reached on an error.

Alana Vawter provided all the pitching support the Cardinal needed, throwing 6.1 shutout innings. The Redhawks logged only two hits on the night and had three and out innings in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Vawter struck out four batters to zero walks to improve to 3-2 on the year.

The Cardinal plated two runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. Huff singled up the middle to bat in Emily Schultz and Ellee Eck. Huff ended the night 4-4 with two RBI and a double. Lim was 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Stanford returns to action with one game against UIC, Saturday night at 6 p.m.
