REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - In the first weekend of action in the spring sailing season, Stanford won two regattas. The first trophy of the season for the Cardinal came from the PCCSC Women's Team Race Championship followed by a one two finish in the Bryson Women's Fleet Race.
In the PCCSC Women's Team Race Championship, Stanford lined up with three skippers in Michelle Lahrkamp, Stephanie Houck, and Hannah Freeman. Five crew joined in as well, with AnaClare Sole, Grace Austin, Patricia Gerli, Gwendolyn Donahue, and Sammy Pickell competing.
The event started with low wind and required some patience from the sailors, but once the racing began, Stanford took control and didn't falter. The Cardinal finished a perfect 6-0 on its way to victory with a 1-2-3 finish against each opponent.
In the Bryson Women's Fleet Race, the Cardinal finished first and second overall in the event out of 13 teams.
AnaClare Sole, Michelle Lahrkamp, and Lauren Taylor featured for Cardinal team one. This marked Taylor's first action on The Farm, and the newcomer sailed impressively to help seal the event win for the team.
Cardinal team one finished with an overall score of 11 points to take home first place.
On Cardinal team two, Stephanie Houck, Patricia Gerli, and Laurel Foster each competed to take home second place in the event. This weekend marked a return to sailing for Foster, who has worked hard to return from injury.
Cardinal team two finished with 18 points, good for second place in the event.
Stanford will be back in action at home next weekend in the Jeremy McIntyre Memorial while also competing in the Phoebe Corckran King Team Race in Charleston, South Carolina.
