Sun, Lasic-Ellis Garner Weekly Honors

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford won a pair of the College Gymnastics Association weekly awards this week, with freshman Ian Lasic-Ellis earning Rookie of the Week, and senior Blake Sun repeating as Specialist of the Week.

Sun, who won the parallel bars event title with a national-best 15.700 at the Stanford Open, followed up his performance last week with a 15.300 to earn a share of the event title. He would add an event title on pommel horse after registering a score of 13.800. Sun is the top parallel bars gymnast in the nation with an average score of 15.267. He is one of only two gymnasts to go 15+ in the event this year, joining teammate Curran Phillips.

The selection is the third of Sun's career after earning Specialist of the Week on January 28, 2020 and February 2, 2022.

Lasic-Ellis took second on high bar at the Pac-12 Invite last week, turning in a career-best 13.550. He also earned a pair of third-place finishes on still rings (13.850) and parallel bars (career-high 14.300). The native of Dover, Mass. ranks fifth in the nation on parallel bars with an average of 14.050 and eighth nationally on still rings at 13.867 – both good for second among rookies. He also owns the seventh-best all-around average in the nation at 79.300.

The weekly honor is the first of Lasic-Ellis' career.

Stanford will return to action on Sunday, February 13 when it hosts California in The Big Flip Open at 1 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on Virti.us.
