ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Stanford raced in three regattas over the weekend and claimed a second place finish in each event.
In the St. Mary's College Women's Interconference event, Stanford were edged out of the victory by Tulane. The two teams held the top spots after the first day and were neck and neck for most of the final rounds.
Stanford took the lead after the 16A and again after the 18A races, but Tulane pulled ahead in the 18B competition to secure the victory.
In a deep field of 16 teams in the Graham Hall Team Race, Stanford took second overall with a record of 6-4, behind Yale. Stanford advanced to the final four following victories over Georgetown, George Washington, Roger Williams, and Navy.
In the final four round, Stanford nearly claimed the victory, defeating Navy, Georgetown, and taking first against Yale, but the Cardinal were unable to win enough points to snag first place. Stanford lined up with Jack Parkin, Sammy Pickell, Wiley Rogers, AnaClare Sole, Michelle Lahrkamp, and Patricia Gerli.
In the third regatta of the weekend, the PCCSC South Designate in southern California, Stanford was bested by the University of Hawaii. The contest was tight throughout, with the Rainbows and Cardinal jumping in front of the field from the first race.
Stanford won the A division, only bringing in 23 points to Hawaii's 27. But in the B division, the Rainbows had the advantage, scoring 15 points to the Cardinal's 34. Hawaii took the overall victory by a score of 42 to 57.
Stanford is back in action in the PCCSC North Designate and the Marchiando Team Race next weekend.
